The Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic is an official event of Alabama. It is organized during every Memorial Day weekend at Decatur, Alabama. The main highlight of this event are the hot air balloons from around the country, which are inflated for an evening of fun and entertainment. Besides this, the festival also features a car show, live entertainment, food, fireworks, and a series of different ballooning events.
The Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic is the one of the oldest hot-air balloon race in the mid-South, started in Decatur, Alabama. Tracing its origin back in 1978 the sport of ballooning had hit Decatur hard and there were several well known pilots living in the area. Balloonists from Alabama,Kentucky, Ohio, Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana got together with a handful of other volunteers and started the Alabama Jubilee. This was an endeavor to promote craving competition and the festival atmosphere provided at other ballon rallies in the world. The festival also features a car show, live entertainment, food, fireworks, and a series of different ballooning events. Popularly known as the "Ballooning Capital of Alabama", the Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic has been named amongst Top 20 Tourism Event in the Southeast by Atlanta-based Southeast Tourism Society.
