The Edinburgh Festival Fringe holds recognition as world's largest arts festival. It takes place in Scotland's capital during three weeks every August. A large number of other arts and cultural festivals, collectively known as the Edinburgh Festival are celebrated during this period, of which the Fringe is by far the largest. It was established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival. The concept of Fringe Theater has been copied around the world. The largest and most celebrated of these spawned festivals are Adelaide Fringe Festival and Edmonton International Fringe Festival.
Edinburgh is a neat little town to visit at the worst of times, and a perfect place for biggest arts festival in the world. The mother of all Fringe Festivals has over 200 shows in as many venues. Nowadays, venues come in all shapes and sizes, with use being made of every conceivable space from proper theaters, custom-made theaters, historic castles, to lecture theaters, conference centers, other university rooms and spaces, temporary structures, churches and church halls, schools, a public toilet, the back of a taxi, and even in the audience's own homes. From musicals to comedy, opera to dance, there's something for everyone. Prices of admission are super cheap on average and the Scottish capital is absolutely abuzz during the three weeks the fest is on.
