Burning Man is an annual event held in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada, in United States. The event starts on the Sunday before American Labor Day and ends on the day of the American Labor Day holiday. The celebrations of this festival involve a ritual burning of a large wooden effigy which gives the appearance of a burning man, and hence the name. The Burning Man is actually an ultra-alternative festival that celebrates self-expression, self-reliance and art
The festival of Burning Man is organized every year by Black Rock City. The festival traces its origin as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice in 1986 when Larry Harvey, Jerry James, and a few friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco to burn a 9-foot (2.7-meter) wooden man as well as a smaller wooden dog. It is held in the middle of the Nevada desert where the flat plain becomes a virtual community for a week. Besides this, the other attractions of the festival includes off-beat art exhibits, music performances and all sorts of random mayhem making it an interesting celebration. The burning of a massive, building-sized effigy marks the conclusion of this festival.
