The Copenhagen Jazz festival is amongst world's most awaited jazz music festivals. Occurring annually since 1979, this festival gives Copenhagen's jazz community a license to overrun the city and take jazz to the masses. The festival runs for ten days in early July, and features a staggering number of performances - around nine hundred shows in one hundred different venues.
During the Copenhagen Jazz festival , acts range from local musicians to the stars of the international jazz scene. Glorious past performers have included Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins and Oscar Peterson. The festival's big names perform at some of Copenhagen's most famous landmarks, including The Royal Theatre, the Tivoli Gardens and the Frederiksborg Castle Gardens. The rest of the city is overrun with intimate and unique jazz performances - in shopping malls, cafes, parks and even on boats.
