The festival name "Eurockeennes" is a blend of two words involving the words rock and europeennes (Europeans). The festival was first held in 1989 by the name of Le Ballon - Territoire de musiques, named after the nearby Ballon d'Alsace. It was started by the Conseil general of the Territoire de Belfort, who wanted to dynamise their departement with a big cultural event for its youths. The main attraction of this festival is its location, which is along the Malsaucy lake. The site is a pretty picturesque spot, and a good place to camp. The campsite is situated at about three kilometres from the stages and main enclosure. The line up consists of rocky and poppy mix with different types of music happening on different stages. Another highlight of this festival is that it opens late and closes at about 3AM each morning, which is different from most festivals.
