The Green Man Festival is a popular music festival observed in Wales, United Kingdom. The musical extravaganza is held every year in the month of August. Green Man music festival is basically a three day event held at Glanusk Park, in the Brecon Beacons. The focus of this event is the around folk music, culture, sustainable living, environmental consciousness and now extends to almost every possible genre of music.
Green Man music festivity has evolved from a one-day, 300 capacity event in 2003, to a three-day festival with live music including psych, folk, indie, dance and Americana across five stages, as well as DJs playing everything from dub-reggae to electro and stoner rock, throughout the night. It's an independent music festival having a unique identity of literature, film, theatre, ceilidhs, all-night bonfires, comedy and secret gigs. Green Man takes place in the rolling parkland of Glanusk Park, nestled under the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park; "of all the festivals in all the fields in Britain, probably the best field of all has been bagged by the Green Man Festival" (The Times). The festival has carved a niche as a non-corporate and ethically-minded festival, and is widely regarded as the leading boutique festival on the UK festival circuit. In its latest edition, An 8 meter sculpture of the Green Man was set alight at the end of the festival, which created a wonderful finale and great spectacle to finish the celebrations for 2009. There is camping, international cuisine, art and alternative therapy to be enjoyed. However, the Green Man Festival is famously said to captivate its audience with the special extra dimension of its accepting, eclectic atmosphere, so hard to find in modern popular musical events, which often focus on fashion as much as art.
