The Litang Horse Festival is a much awaited horse festival organized in the village of Litang in Sichuan province of China. The festival has emerged as a one stop destination for Khampas from all over southern China and Tibet for trade, celebrate and ride. The Litang Horse festival is held generally the first week in August and it usually runs for a week. This exciting festival benefits the nomads economy as well as the rest of China's economy.
The main attraction of Horse festival in Litang is the horsemanship and horse races, held upon the Tibetan Ponies. These small and fast horses are raced and shown to see who owns the best horse. A very large tourism business has been built up on adventure trips and tours provided by companies who cater to individuals who are interested in horses and horsemanship. Locals from the region as well as more and more international guests come to compete or watch the races and accompanying ceremonies. Camp sites are set up around the town"s outskirts and traditional Tibetan songs and dances are performed by people and horse bedecked in magnificent traditional costumes. Other attractions ofthis festival include horse borne archery and agility competitions where riders must pick up objects from the ground. And arts, crafts and trade fair accompanies the horse stunts and shows.
