Panafest festival is organized every two years for Africans and people of African descent. This is a popular cultural event held in Ghana . Tracing its origin back in 1992, the Panfest festival was started with an idea to promote and enhance the feeling of unity called 'Pan-Africanism'. Ot also aimed towards the development of African continent itself. Also known as the "Pan-African Historical Theatre Festival", Panfest is a festival celebrating the traditions and cultures of Africa.
The main attractions of Panafest festival include activities and performances in the areas of theater, drama, music, poetry etc. among other things. One of the best events is a candlelit Emancipation Vigil to honour African slaves. Other highlights include the viewing of 'durbar' of Chiefs, and availability of tours to various places of interest, such as slave castle dungeons etc. Held biannually in Cape Coast, Ghana, it's a showcase of the best of both modern and traditional arts. It celebrates African fashion, digital arts, music, theatre, visual arts and dance. A series of politically based conferences about the African arts, Africa's history and Africa's relationship with the rest of the world forms a unique feature of this cultural event. Most Africans see Panafest as part-pilgrimage partly a chance to party and show off their skills.
