The Salzburg Festival is a very long event observed in Salzburg city of Austria. The festival celebrations extend over five weeks, starting from late July. It's an annual event held each summer in Austria at the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In recent times, another dominant event, Salzburg Easter Festival, is also held annually by the same organization.
The Salzburg Festival is pre-dominantly a festival of music and drama. The birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Austrian town of Salzburg is laso the place where the Von Trapp family (both the real and the fictional versions from "The Sound of Music") performed before escaping over the alps out of Austria during World War II. Thus, along with Salzburg people, even those unfamiliar with Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart, also have a keen interest in this annual musical event. The performances principally are held at the M"nchsberg (The Mozart Museum), the Festival Hall, the Felsenreitschule and The Horse Pond. Besides this, the cities churches, smaller theatres and outdoor spaces are also adorned with exceptional performances. Traditional songs are sung by the cinematic Von Trapps. The five week long festival includes around 170 events of drama, opera and classical concerts. The most frequent and regular features of this festival are the Strauss and Mozart. Remaining are an excellent blend of classics, rediscovered treasures and premiered works.
